CHAIM MOTZEN


Chaim Motzen is Managing Partner and co-founder at Izuba Energy. He has close to a decade of experience in the renewable energy space in Africa. In his previous role, as Co-Founder and Managing Director of Gigawatt Global, Chaim led the development of the first utility-scale solar field in continental Africa (ex-South Africa). Financed and built within one year of the signing of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), the project increased Rwanda’s generation capacity by 6%. The solar development was recognized as a Finalist for the U.S. Secretary of State’s Award for Corporate Excellence (ACE) and was featured at WEF Africa 2016.  Chaim has spoken at numerous conferences & gatherings including Africa Energy Forum, AFDB’s Annual Conference, EEP Knowledge Exchange Forum, OECD and CERA Week.

Chaim is a former consultant at McKinsey and Company, where he received a Marvin Award, the highest McKinsey award for non-partners, recognizing exceptional work in knowledge building. Chaim serves as a mentor in residence at MassChallenge. He served for years as a member of the Board of Directors of Gift of Life Marrow Registry.  He is involved in various historical preservation projects.

Chaim received an MBA from Harvard Business School and an MPA from Harvard Kennedy School.
